“There is a courage of happiness as well as a courage of sorrow.” - Alfred Adler
Shiromi believes hope, healthy activity and holistic being foster the courage to live a worthwhile life. One of Shiromi's guiding philosophies is that anxiety makes us afraid of living and depression take us out of living. Other mental health diagnoses tend to be variations of anxiety or depression. Life is hard and beautiful; sometimes we need support to find the silver lining. Therapy is an opportunity to reconcile past and current trauma. Sometimes we need a space to explore our lives - with no strings attached. Shiromi works across cultures, religious systems and sexual orientations.
Shiromi provides a variety of therapy styles: Crisis counseling, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, Parent coaching, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Adlerian Psycho-dynamic Therapy, Psycho-Analytic Psychotherapy, Solution Focused Therapy and traditional Cognitive Behavior Therapy. Clients are given information about each style and encouraged to choose a style that best suits their growth needs. Shiromi firmly believes in the power of choice; making a choice is practicing courage.
Clients can expect encouragement to find their best healthy lifestyle to achieve treatment goals. Health is defined differently for different people. Shiromi typically treats depression, anxiety, complex trauma, Bi-polar, and personality disorders. Since Shiromi is a first-generation American, she has a particular passion for treating that population, as well as clients who have moved among socioeconomic classes. Clients with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or unresolved trauma are encouraged to consider Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) for immediate relief opportunities. ART can be completed in 1-6 sessions.
